About this manual
To Operate a JCB Patch Planer efficiently and safely you must know the equipment and have the skill to use it. You must also be a competent operator of the carrier machine.
This manual instructs you on the Patch Planer and its safe operation and maintenance. Although some guidance on using the equipment is given, get yourself trained in the skills of using a Patch Planer before trying to work with it. If you don’t, you will not do your job well, and you will be a danger to yourself and others.
The attachment is supplied as an assembly complete with custom made Quickhitch mounting plate and tail hoses.
The JCB Patch Planer is compatible with the following machines:
980/88840 – Robot 170 HF
980/88842 – Robot 185/190/1110/1105 HF
Equipment Model and Serial Number
The equipment serial number is stamped on the attachment data plate.
Using this Manual
This manual is arranged to give you a good understanding of the equipment and its safe operation. It also contains maintenance information and specification data. Read this manual from front to back before using the equipment for the first time. Pay particular attention to all the safety aspects of operating and maintaining the equipment. If there is anything you are unsure about, ask your JCB Distributor or employer. Do not guess; you or others could be killed or seriously injured.
General warnings in this section are repeated throughout the manual, as well as specific warnings. Read all the safety statements regularly, so that you do not forget them. Remember that the best operators are the safest operators.
Finally, take care of this manual. Keep it clean and in good condition.

Units of Measurement
In this manual for the JCB Patch Planer, the units of measurement are metric. The Imperial units follow in parenthesis (). For example, liquid capacities are shown as follows – 28 litres (6 gal).
The page numbering system in this manual is not continuous. There is a gap of a few pages between sections. This allows for the insertion of new pages in later issues.
