Description

JCB SILAGE DEFACER (OPERATOR MANUAL)

To operate a JCB Silage Defacer attachment efficiently and safely you must know the equipment and have the skill to use it. You must also be a competent operator of the appropriate carrier machine.

About this Manual

This manual details the relevant use and maintenance procedures for the JCB Silage Defacer attachment. Although some guidance on using the attachment is given, this document is NOT a training manual. If you are a new operator, get yourself trained in the skills of using the attachment before trying to work with it. If you don’t, you will not do your job well, and you will be a danger to yourself and the people around you.

The safety information included is directly relevant to operation and maintenance of the attachment. General safety information, and that relevant to the carrier machine is not included. For details about safe operation of the carrier machine, see the relevant machine Operator Manual.

Attachment Description

The JCB Silage Defacer is a hydraulically operated attachment. It is intended to be used on agricultural installations, to loosen haylage and silage from a tightly compacted bunker.

A hydraulic motor inside the unit receives an oil supply from the carrier machines auxiliary hydraulic circuit. The motor causes the cutters to rotate.

The attachment is supplied as a complete unit with hoses and options as required.

Model and Serial Number

The attachment has an identification plate which is located on one of the side plates. The model and serial number of the attachment are stamped on the plate. Always quote the serial number when obtaining replacement parts.

Quick Attach Mounting

1 Remove the bucket or other attachment from the prime mover quick attach mechanism.
2 Set the quick-attach locks on the skid steer toolbar to the unlocked position.
3 Lower the loader arms and tilt the toolbar down low enough to pass under the top lip of the rear frame of the defacer.
4 Following all standard safety practices, start the skid steer and slowly drive it in back of the defacer.
Position the skid steer so that the top of the toolbar is in under the lip of the hitch on the rear frame.
5 Tilt the toolbar back to hook the defacer onto the toolbar. It may be necessary to lift the loader arms
slightly.
6 Set the quick-attach locks to the locked position to secure the defacer onto the skid steer. It may be necessary to raise, lower or tilt the toolbar to properly align so the locking mechanism can be activated.
7 With the auxiliary hydraulic system turned off, route the hydraulic hoses over the rear frame and toolbar and connect them to their proper auxiliary couplers on the skid steer.
